Maleny State High School Group Visit

Our usual blog entries are written by individual volunteers who share their experiences with us, but recently we’ve been having more and more GROUPS of volunteers come to us.  Here are some of the reflections of the students and staff members from Maleny State High School (Australia) who volunteered with us for two weeks this past April.

I have never been traveling before and have only on rare occasions volunteered for projects, so coming to Nepal was completely unknown to me. It is unbelievable how entirely glad I am that I came. There was not one moment I regretted my decision, and not one moment I felt unwelcome. This has been the greatest experience of my life and this country, this organization, the amazing guides and organizers will forever have a place in my heart. As soon as I graduate I hope to come back and volunteer again. Thank you to anyone who made this experience possible.  Keira Hoschke

What was most memorable?  This is a very difficult question for me as the whole trip has been absolutely amazing and I have loved every moment. I really loved working with the babies at Bal Mandir, they were so beautiful and it made me happy to see them smile and just sit and make them feel better. One of the first nights when I had dinner at the Sanctuary House was also a really memorable experience for me. The girls were so lovely and kind and talkative and I loved that they were so open with us.  It has been incredible and I am so happy to have had this opportunity. I cannot wait to come back!!! I have met so many wonderful people and the guides and organizers have been spectacular and have made our time here even more special. I will miss it here so much. I will definitely recommend Volunteer Nepal to everyone.  Maggie Walsh

It was very enlightening. I learnt a lot about the generosity of the human spirit and I have a lot of love for Nepali people and especially the children of Nepal.  Ben Adams

I think it is the impossible to pick one favorite moment because it was all so great. I think that realizing and being reminded of the power and importance of the little things-smile, laughter, hugs has been a beautiful thing. I love it here and ill email to book my next trip with you when I get back.  I loved everything minute of it and I know for sure that I will be back.  I have learned so much from this experience and I appreciate everything you have done to make it all possible.  Neive Vinall

My most memorable moment was on the final day at the Chelsea centre workshop presentation, when everyone got up and danced. It was hard to narrow down to one moment, but there was something so special about the smiles and the hugs that I could never forget. It didn’t matter who we were or where we were from we were all having fun and dancing and laughing.  I don’t think my experience could have gone better. Everything was structured so well that it didn’t just feel like a tourist trip-it felt like I was in Nepal as a local. The guides were incredible, the transport and accommodation was a fantastic way for us to realize our privilege, but still feel comfortable and safe. And the placements weren’t overwhelming but definitely eye opening. I would love to return and volunteer through Volunteer Nepal in the future.  Isabella Gray

Every moment interacting with locals was unique and memorable.  Frankie Sullivan- Wood

What was most memorable?  No single moment….  connection with VN staff, meeting Michael and watching the movie about him  -meeting the children at EDUC, performances at the end of the workshops and the children’s smiling faces, watching our students from Australia gain an understanding of life and reality outside their own small town and develop empathy and wanting to help in the future. VN was incredibly well organized. Everything was well communicated and staff was supportive at all stages. All questions were clearly answered and any queries were clarified. Everything that was said were be done, was done and done well.  Staffs were exceptionally friendly which was very helpful when the shock of some of the circumstances of the placements kicked in. It felt like we were all working together for a clear good.  Mary Sullivan

What was most memorable?  Todd snoring.  Holding Tiki, the 3 year old at Balmandir.  Doing the dance at EDUC.  Playing Irish snap.  Keith Doonam

The entire experience has been filled with memorable experiences--from the children to the staff of Volunteer Nepal. The Papa’s House show or the last day was a moment filled with joy, celebration and sharing. This encompasses our entire experience in Nepal.  Ashleigh Ebenezen

Having worked with Volunteer Nepal has made this trip very fun, easy, and memorable. Our guides were beautifully caring, and they were always ready to help and answer any questions and concerns we had. I’m really glad to have worked with them. I wouldn’t have had it any other way.  Weronika Ejmont
