Assist at an Orphanage

Nepal Orphans Home operates three Homes in Nepal. In Dhapsai, a community just outside of Kathmandu, we have a boys home with 25 young boys, 7 to 16 years old. This home is a very nice four-story building that also serves as the Volunteer Nepal office and training center. The volunteers going through orientation will stay in this house. The boys occupy the first two floors and the volunteers the upper two floors. The house offers a volunteer kitchen for those who want to cook their own meals on occasion, or a place to sit around the table with coffee and chat. The House is also wired for the internet.

The second Home in Dhapasi is for our girls. There we have 44 girls from the age of 5 to 18. This Home is a 5-minute walk from the boys Home. Volunteers who choose either of these Homes will live in the Volunteer House and help the children as a big brother or sister in everything from preparing for school, homework, playing, talking, and mentoring. You would accompany the children to school and meet them at the school when the day is done.

While the children are in school your time would be your own. This is a 6-hour period. Most volunteers use this time to teach a class or two in one of the local schools, where volunteer teachers are most welcome. Others go to the Government Orphanage to help out; others volunteer at the animal rescue shelter nearby, or work with the Sisters of Mercy for a few hours. All of the above opportunities are close by and discretionary as to the volunteer’s desire.

We also place volunteers in one of the nine government homes spread through out Nepal, including Lumbini, the birth place of Buddha.

And last, we operate our own Home in western Nepal. This is a girls home where currently 28 young girls who have been rescued from indentured servitude live. These are amazing young girls, also aged 5 to 18, who have the purest of spirits, a zest for life, and a heart melting appreciation for the volunteers’ time. In all places the setting is spectacular and inspiring.
