Teach at a School
Teaching in Nepal is one of the most needed and appreciated volunteer placements.
We have two schools in the Hilly District of Ramechhap that are supported by Nepal Orphans Home. From the county seat of Manthali one is a two-hour trek, the other a six-hour trek. You would live in the village with a host family, or you could make the trek each day from Manthali and a guest house, if you were to choose the closer school. Volunteers have reduced the trekking time to 45 minutes once acclimated to the altitude. This is beautiful country. Both schools are small, comprising mostly Dalit families which are quite poor, yet they are as loving and generous a people as you will find.

Closer to Dhapasi we have a school in a squatters’ camp where the children will absolutely melt your heart. We also have positions available in small private schools in the valley that are underfunded and understaffed, as well as at the Nepal Orphans Home in Western Nepal. There we have 28 girls rescued from indentured servitude who attend a local government school. Teaching there is a favorite among volunteers. Female volunteers stay in the Home with the girls, while male volunteers have a private room very near the Home.

Wherever you are placed you will find the children completely absorbed in learning. They are bright, attentive, and will reward you a thousand times over with their kindness, appreciation, and hard work. They see volunteer teachers as a life line. The connections you make with them are very rewarding.
We currently offer around 15 schools, urban to isolated, from the Terai or desert region to villages in the shadow of the Himalayas providing you the opportunity of a lifetime—yours and those of the children in the village. You will never forget this time of your life.
