Nepal Orphans Home consists of five homes in Dhapasi; Kalpana House, Harmony House, Sanctuary House, Possibilities House, and a fifth house whose name is pending. All of these are a short walk from one another as well as the Volunteer House.
We also have placements in the Valley at a “Baby Orphanage” which has infants through toddlers and an NGO which houses trafficked women’s children. These are both near the Volunteer House, one a short walk and the other a short bus ride.
Outside the valley we have placements at orphanages in Pokhara, the “Switzerland of Nepal,” Lumbini, the “Birthplace of Buddha” in Charikot nestled among 4000 meter peaks, and in the Terai “jungle” region along the Indian border. The placements outside the valley offer accommodations onsite.
Working with the children in our homes involves assisting them with before school study and preparations for school such as hair-braiding, walking them to school, meeting them after school and helping with homework, and spending time casually before and during supper. During the school hours of 9:15 to 3:30 some volunteers help the house staff with housework and gardening, and some choose to work with neighborhood NGO’s in their offices, go to the “Baby Orphanage” or teach a class in one of the local schools.
Strong bonds are often made between the volunteers and children, and frequently volunteers return in the years following their first placement.
