Very often people leave their villages with hope for a better life in Kathmandu. Sometimes they are duped into coming by nefarious people who then prey upon their powerlessness. Nepal Orphans Home has outreach programs which are sustained by our volunteers’ presence and fees. There are countless opportunities to help in areas where people live in abject poverty. By offering nutrition and medical intervention, matching needs with organizations who can help, mentoring, taking people to doctors or helping them to enroll their children in government schools, teaching about hygiene and their environment we have been able to elevate lives to the point where medical conditions are manageable or cured, the women have rice and vegetables every day, babies have formula and bottles for the mothers who cannot express milk, and sickness and allergies are alleviated.

We then match vocational training interest with NGOs or individuals who will pair up with them and teach them skills. For problem-solving, creative and compassionate individuals, this is a high value placement where you will quickly see the results of your intervention and absolutely steer people’s lives from beyond the brink of despair to optimistic, self confident, determined beings.

Volunteer Nepal will always send staff with the volunteer and be able to direct the needs to the solutions, but the hands-on compassion and love is solely that of the volunteer.
