Volunteer Nepal has established placements in several medical facilities from remote clinics to modern hospitals in Kathmandu.
One of the favorite sites is a modern hospital that does reconstructive surgery and rehabilitation for poor children from across Nepal. The hospital sits atop a high hill just outside Kathmandu Valley where fresh breezes, breathtaking views and the sound of songbirds fill the air. Volunteers from many parts of the planet might be found there. Typically they are either med students or pre-med who are seeking an opportunity to experience a hospital setting, doing rounds with the doctors, helping the nurses with pre and post-operative care, and work in the rehabilitation department.
We have had several medical students work at a Kathmandu hospital where they work under the guidance of staff surgeons and are encouraged to participate with them to the degree of comfort each volunteer has. These students are evaluated and this is sent back to the med school where the students are enrolled.
We have several remote clinics from the mountains to the jungle area which are usually sparsely staffed and equipped, but where the volunteer lives and services villagers who treat them like celebrities.
Volunteers with any medical backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Nurses and doctors are especially welcomed. We have established rural medical clinics in areas where there are no clinics when doctors have expressed a desire to help out. We have the ability to customize any placement to fit the criteria of physicians wishing to serve. Whatever degree of experience in any health care field you might possess we will place you in a richly rewarding environment.
